One of the characteristics it seems that is common among happy and fulfilled people is a strong spiritual connection. What I’m talking about here is not merely the formation of such a connection, but the maintenance and utilization of such a connection in all aspects of life. I know it is this way for me. I am completely open to all the different ways that people make a spiritual connection, and I’m not here to judge any of it or to tell anyone how to do it. To me, what matters most is that people find a spiritual connection that works for them in their life, gives them guidance, and provides them strength and courage to stand for human values of peace, love and goodwill.
Maintaining my spiritual connection means that each day, I renew my connection with my spiritual guidance. Then, throughout the day, I draw on that connection to help me live my life. What can happen if I’m not diligent about this is that I can spend my time in thoughtful morning meditation, feel a great connection, then head out the door and leave it all behind. If this happens, I find myself trying to run my own show, rather that seeking the guidance that I know is perfect for any situation I may encounter. Whenever I begin to run my own show, things normally go downhill quite rapidly. I become anxious, agitated and try to control the universe. None of this can be construed as positive living.
If, on the other hand, I make that same connection first thing in the morning, then make sure and take it with me as I head out into my day, I find that I not only have serenity, wisdom and a positive attitude, but that I am an example of these things for others as well. I’m not taking credit for having these values working in my life, mind you. As I always say, the good things in my life come through me, not from me. It’s staying in touch with my spiritual guidance and staying connected that enables the serenity, wisdom and positive attitude to exist in me.
For all of us, making a spiritual connection should be an easy and natural process. If it is not an easy and natural process for you, there are ways to develop that aspect of your life. It is just as easy, and conversely unnatural, for us to lose our spiritual connection. There are a myriad of distractions and challenges that can break the connection, if we are not dedicated to keeping it intact. I admit, therefore, that it can be difficult to maintain our spiritual connection in all the situations we face in our lives. The more we practice it, though, the easier it gets. Beyond that, whatever it takes to preserve that connection, it is always more than worth it.
Today I am grateful to not only have, but to maintain my spiritual connection.
