No truer words were ever spoken than “If you have your health, you have everything”. All the money and free time in the world don’t do us much good if we don’t have adequate health and fitness to enjoy them. We don’t have to be fanatic about these areas, either. Common sense goes a long way here. Smoking and excess drinking are harmful to our health. We should eat a reasonably healthy diet and get some exercise. In many cases, our recreational activities can take care of our exercise needs. If this is a BeMeBetter category we need to improve, the most important thing is to do something. The biggest mistake people make is to think about doing too much, or try to do too much too soon. This inevitably leads to a sense of being overwhelmed, frustration and lack of results. We need to crawl before we walk and walk before we run. Finally, we must have good follow through. In health and fitness, we should consider this a lifelong project and pace ourselves accordingly. The support and encouragement of others is critical to maintaining motivation. We must not listen to detractors and instead surround ourselves with those who are in our corner, cheering us on to success.
